The Tlingit had a moon house just for women to go to when they came of age. Older women would have ceremonies with the younger women in celebration of this connection with the moon, the earth and women.
The last known location of a moon house was in what is today called Glacier Bay, when the ocean water was much lower.
Although the moon house is for both Tlingit moieties, Ravens and Eagles, this design is of an Eagle wrapping around the moon, creating the design.
